Cle Shaheed Sloan rose from a life of crime as a member of the Bloods street gang to a career as an actor in films like "Training Day" (2001) and "End of Watch" (2012), as well as the producer and director of the gang documentary "Bastards of the Party" (2005). Born May 22, 1963 in Los Angeles, California, Sloan became an active member of the Athens Park Bloods, a South Los Angeles branch of the notorious street gang, at the age of 12. While incarcerated on criminal charges, Sloan decided to turn his life around, and took a job offer from football great and actor Jim Brown to work as a production assistant. The job introduced him to director Antoine Fuqua, who cast Sloan as menacing antagonists in several of his features, including "The Replacement Killers" (1998) and "Training Day" (2001). Sloan also served as a consultant on the latter film, advising the actors on gang culture and even bringing aboard real gang members as background players to lend verisimilitude to the project. In 2005, Fuqua produced "Bastards of the Party," a documentary produced and directed by Sloan about the rise of the Crips and the Bloods. Sloan also began speaking out against gang violence in various media outlets and through his non-profit organization, AKTIVE, which worked directly with active gang members to help them serve as more positive members of their communities. During this period, Sloan continued to appear in features and on television, most notably as a corrupt Los Angeles County Sheriff's Deputy in David Ayer's "Street Kings" (2008) and in the critically praised "End of Watch" (2012). In January 2015, Sloan was involved in a hit-and-run incident on the set of the F. Gary Gray film "Straight Outta Compton" (2015). Rap record label owner Marion "Suge" Knight was reportedly involved in an altercation with Sloan and Heavyweight Records co-founder Terry Carter, which led to his striking both men with his vehicle in the parking lot of a restaurant in Compton, California. The accident killed Carter and left Sloane with serious injuries, while Knight was arrested on charges of suspected murder.
