Universal's Dark Universe, Valerian, Despicable Me 3, and more make our daily movie news

In today's daily movie news we are introduced to a "shared monster movie universe", a brand new franchise casts their lead actor, a couple new teasers were released, and we mourn the unfortunate passing of the great actor Sir Roger Moore.

Before we dive into our usual roundup of movie news we must acknowledge Roger Moore's illustrious career in Hollywood. He played the iconic character of James Bond 7 times between 1973 and 1985 (Live and Let Die, The Spy who Loved Me, and Moonraker being the most notable). He was the title character in the successful TV series The Saint. Many may also know him from the comedy The Cannonball Run. His career lasted decades but came to an end today when he passed away. The actor was 89. Most will remember him as James Bond so we raise our drinks, shaken not stirred, to you, Mr. Moore.

With the release of The Mummy coming on June 9th, Universal has announced a shared monster movie universe or as they call it the "Dark Universe". This universe will include rebooted versions of original monster movies including Dracula, Wolf Man, Frankenstein, Bride of Frankenstein, Creature from the Black Lagoon, Van Helsing, and the Invisible Man. Universal has already cast Johnny Depp as the Invisible Man and Javier Bardem as Frankenstein's Monster in upcoming remakes. We don't know about you but this is one spooky franchise we can get behind!

A new teaser just dropped for Despicable Me 3! Steve Carell is back as the evil villain turned “good” secret agent Gru. Leaving his life of crime in the past, Gru (Carell) and his new wife Lucy (Kristen Wiig) are tasked with taking down a new enemy. Although he may not seem intimidating, Balthazar Bratt (Trey Parker) is a moonwalking – and amazingly rhythmic – criminal who is obsessed with world domination.

Of course, Despicable Me wouldn’t be the same without everyone's favourite yellow Minions! We last saw them in their spin-off film Minions in 2015 but rest assured they will be making their way back to the big screen in the third installment of the Despicable Me franchise. Check out your little yellow buddies in the teaser below and see Despicable Me 3 in Cineplex theatres on June 30th!

There will be an official Valerian And The City Of A Thousand Planets trailer dropping tomorrow. BUT we've got a teaser that dropped today to keep you on the edge of your seat.

Dane DeHaan and Cara Delevingne play special operatives who must race to identify the marauding menace that is threatening their planet. It’s directed by Luc Besson who has brought us other sci-fi classics such as The Fifth Element and Lucy. Check out the teaser below and see Valerian when it hits Cineplex theatres on July 21st!

Today we learned that Tom Holland will play Nathan Drake! For those of you who are fans of the Uncharted video game series this is huge news. It has been confirmed that the movie will be a prequel to the video game installments. A young Nathan Drake first encounters his partner Victor Sullivan and in essence sets up the events of the entire game franchise. This one's still early in development but we'll let you know the details as they roll in. We can't wait...
