The Frontrunners

Will the winners at the Golden Globes go on to Oscar glory?

The first big Hollywood gathering of the season, the Golden Globes set the stage, awarding the top prizes to Green Book and Bohemian Rhapsody. Historically, the Hollywood Foreign Press and the Oscars aren't always aligned, but this year Green Book looks poised for Best Picture.

Golden Globe winner Rami Malek on how playing Freddie Mercury changed his life

Will A Star is Born bring Lady Gaga one step closer to a coveted EGOT?

Very few actors have won the quartet of an Emmy, Grammy, Oscar and Tony, but Lady Gaga could very well join that elite group one day. The singer/actress already has multiple Grammys, will likely win the Oscar for her song "Shallow" in A Star is Born, and has a decent shot at Best Actress for her performance in the film.

A quirky period piece from a Greek visionary, The Favourite has been living up to its name this awards season

The Favourite definitely isn’t your mother’s period piece, but it sure is doing well this awards season. From the brilliant mind of Yorgos Lanthimos (Dogtooth, The Lobster), this is an unconventional costume drama that features three stunning performances from Olivia Colman, Rachel Weisz and Emma Stone, at least one of whom will likely win an Oscar.

Will the Academy reward Mahershala Ali and Viggo Mortensen's heart-warming friendship in Green Book?

Topping many best of the year lists and taking home multiple Golden Globe awards, Green Book has been buzzed about ever since it premiered at TIFF. Will these two men be honoured come Oscar night? And can they both be up for the Best Actor award?

Christian Bale on his latest unbelievable transformation into Dick Cheney

Christian Bale is unrecognizable as former Vice President of the United States, Dick Cheney. In Adam McKay's follow-up to The Big Short, Christian Bale is the best bet that Vice has for awards accolades, though the film itself is being praised as well. Could this be the role that gets Bale his second Oscar?

Regina King and the cast of If Beale Street Could Talk open up about their timeless and harrowing love story

The follow-up to his Best Picture winning film Moonlight, with If Beale Street Could Talk, Barry Jenkins adapts James Baldwin's novel and it's a match made in heaven. Every performance here is a knock-out, but it's long overlooked Regina King who has the best shot at a Best Supporting Actress nomination, and possibly even a win.

Spike Lee talks about changing the ending of his awards favourite, BlacKkKlansman

It's been a while since Spike Lee was in the awards conversation, but everyone knew he had a hit on his hands with BlackKklansman. Following the crazy true story of a black cop who infiltrated the KKK, this outrageous film has kept its momentum ever since its August release, and it'll likely receive a lot of awards love at the Oscars.

Could Black Panther become the first Marvel film to be nominated for Best Picture?

Everyone loves Black Panther, and ever since it broke box office records in February, audiences have speculated that it could become the first Marvel (or superhero film of any kind) to earn a Best Picture nomination. Directed by Ryan Coogler and starring Chadwick Boseman, Lupita Nyong'o and Michael B. Jordan, it would truly be groundbreaking if it makes its way to the Oscars, and at this rate, it looks likely.

Melissa McCarthy is fearless, fabulous and total Oscar material in Can You Ever Forgive Me?

The comedic actress takes a more serious turn as real life author Lee Israel in Marielle Heller's biopic. She's a dark horse for the Best Actress Oscar, and her co-star Richard Grant has a good shot at a nomination for Best Supporting Actor.

The cast of Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse knows they have something special on their hands

When word broke of an animated Spider-Man feature-length film being produced, no one could have guessed that it would be not just one of the best films of the year, but also possibly the best Spider-Man film ever made. Now, with a Golden Globe win under its belt on top of glowing reviews and unanimous adoration, it looks to be the front-runner for the Best Animated Feature award.

Damien Chazelle's First Man is an epic experience poised for many technical accolades at the Oscars

While the buzz for First Man has died down significantly since the films release, Oscar will likely recognize it as a technical achievement. It already picked up the Best Score prize at the Golden Globes, Claire Foy is a likely nominee for Best Supporting Actress, and the film's sound and visuals are likely to be nominated.
