Five reasons to see The Lego Batman Movie again

Five reasons to see The Lego Batman Movie again

The Lego Batman Movie
is finally here and all our anticipation for this movie was entirely justified! It’s an action-packed yet heartwarming story that’s so jam-packed full of jokes, one-liners, visual gags, callbacks, and references that you HAVE to see it more than once if you want to catch even half of them!

If you caught Lego Batman (voiced by Will Arnett) in theatres this past weekend, you know what we’re talking about, and you might already be planning to see it again (maybe in IMAX or 4DX if you can)! To help to convince you, we’ve rounded up just a few reasons you’ll want to watch this instant classic again.

In case you haven’t seen The Lego Batman Movie yet, what follows has only very minor spoilers, so no warnings needed!

Reason 1: All those crazy villains

Believe it or not, all the zany villains in the movie are actual characters that Batman battled in one incarnation or another – some were featured in various comics, some on the small screen in the campy 1960s TV series. Egghead, Zebra Man, yes, even Condiment King and The Eraser were actual bad guys from Batman’s past! The movie introduces them very quickly, so a rewatch is definitely needed to get the full giggles over these crazy characters.

Reason 2: References to the 1960s TV show

There are a ton of callbacks to the campy classic TV show that made Adam West an icon, but one of our favourites is the moment when Alfred (Ralph Fiennes) dons the old-style Bat suit saying simply, “I miss the sixties.” That’s far from the only one – how many will you notice on your second (or third) viewing?

Reason 3: Obscure Justice League heroes

When Batman accidentally crashes the “Justice League Anniversary Party” at Superman’s Fortress of Solitude the party is hopping with heroes cutting up the dance floor! Superman’s invite list must be long because some heroes (The Flash, Wonder Woman) are very recognizable, while others are a bit less well-known or downright obscure (The Wonder Twins and Gleek!).

Reason 4: References to the Batman movies

Again, there are too many references here to count – the movie even cycles super-quickly through a hilarious “flashback” sequence that name-checks every major Batman movie! But our top fave has to be the one from the trailer in which Batman names Superman as his “greatest enemy” – clearly a nod to last year’s epic Batman v Superman.

Reason 5: All the Big Bads

The final battle sequence in the movie is beyond epic, as Joker recruits Big Bads from multiple TV and movie franchise universes in his final showdown with Batman and his allies! We really truly don’t want to spoil this one for you so we won’t list them here, but on our first viewing we counted no fewer than seven different types of well-known villains. We’ll bet there are more, and we’ll be keeping an eye out for them on our next viewing!

We hope you're now inspired to take in this hilarious family film twice!
